1965

Registered on 29 March 1965 with a membership of 600.

1966

STU was affiliated to World Confederation of Organisation of the Teaching Profession (WOCTP).

1968

Canadian Teachers' Federation donated 1 unit of typewriter

1970

Canadian Teachers' Federation and Alberta Teachers' Federation donated 1 unit of steel table for STU to start off the office.

1970

STU employed a staff to start off the office at a rented office at Jalan P. Ramlee

1971

Request the Ministry of Education to conduct LCE and SPM Bahasa Malaysia single subject examination twice annually.

1971

3 year passage to West Malaysia continue to be a privilege for all officers in view of the government efforts to encourage and to promote the sense of unity and integration within Malaysia.

1971

Annual home passage to be paid to all officers and their families in Sarawak.

1972

STU was affiliated to International Federation of Free Teachers' Union (IFFTU).

1972

The housing allowances enjoyed by officers in superscale G and above be extended to all officers of the civil service.

1975

STU was affiliated to Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC).

1975

STU jointed the ASEAN Council of Teachers (ACT) and the National Joint Council (NJC).

1976

Printed Bakit Cards for sale world wide in aid of its education fund.

1976

STU employeed one full time staff to administer the Union office.

1978

Established the Koperasi Sarawak Teachers Berhad (KOGURU).

1979

STU built its Headquarters Building at Jalan Rock in Kuching.

1980

Official Opening of STU Headquarters Building in Kuching by the State Secretary of Sarawak , Datuk Amar Haji Abang Yusuf Puteh on 15.12.1980.

1980

Secured equal privileges and fringe benefit to all teachers irrespective of whether or not they come from Aided Schools and Chinese Schools.

1981

Succeeded in requesting the Ministry of Education to provide Teachers Training facilities for Temporary Opted Teachers (C and B Category).

1988

Launched the UOA Insurance Group Scheme.

1988

Purchased of STU Building for STU Sibu Division.

1987

Successful in getting the EPF non-contribution for teachers in Sarawak.

1993

STU is a founder member of Education International, Stockholm.

1993

STU took part in the National Day Parade in Kuching.

1994

Hosted the 16th ASEAN Council Of Teachers' Convention in Kuching.

1997

Launched the AMAL Group Child's Education Scheme.

1999

Launched the Great Eastern Life Assurance Group Living Pay Scheme.

2000

Launched the MUI Continental Insurance Diamond Accident Protector Scheme.

2001

Launched the Great Eastern Life Assurance Group Health Care.

2005

Purchased 3 units of Shop lots at Jalan Song, Kuching for STU.

2007

Purchased an Office Unit for STU Sarikei Division's Office.

2008

As of July 2008, membership strength stand at 19,964.

2010

Launched the Great Eastern Life Assurance Group Livin Pay Plus Scheme

2010

Purchased one unit of shop lot for Wisma STU in Sibu

2010

Official opening of Wisma STU at Jalan Song, Kuching

2011

Launched the STU/MCIS-Zurich Union Care Scheme (Personal Accident Inssurance)

2011

Provided legal service to STU members being sued by parents

2012

Purchased a building for Wisma STU in Miri

2014

Urged the Ministry of Education to upgrade the internet connectivity and the school ICT Facilities int the state

2015

Celebrated 50th anniversary

Launched eSTU

Urged the Ministry in Education totrain and place more local teachers in the state

2016

Placement of first batch of local teachers to fulfil 90:10 policy

2018

Succeeded in urging the government to resolve issues of indigenous students without proper identification

2020

Loan settled for Wisma STU in Miri

2021

Successfuly lobbied the Sarawak state government with CUEPACS to provide RM500 financial assistance to federal civil servants for 2020 until 2022
2022 Re-affiliated to the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC)
2022 Successfuly lobbied the Ministry of Education with NUTP to extend the grade ceiling of administrative officers at schools, PPDs and JPNs beyond DG52 to DG54
2023 Inception of the Serian Division STU committee
2023 STU Members voted to increase the subscription fee from RM5 to RM10
